Laying the Foundations for the Future of AI in Serbia
The Serbian IT Association (SITA) has successfully launched one of its most vital initiatives – the AI Working Group. The inaugural meeting brought together top experts from the domestic tech industry to begin the process of defining strategic goals and addressing key challenges within the field of Artificial Intelligence.
The meeting was attended by approximately 30 leading AI experts from our member companies. The working group is headed by coordinator Borivoje Kovač, a renowned AI Evangelist from Endava, whose extensive experience guarantees expert leadership and a clear vision for the group’s development.
From Synergies to Collective Action
The session was structured into two key segments, focusing on the synergy of knowledge and collaborative effort:
-
Mapping Expertise: The first half of the meeting was dedicated to introductions. Each member shared insights into their specific field of work, creating a comprehensive map of the wide-ranging expertise available to the group—from machine learning and natural language processing to applied analytics.
-
Defining the “Scope of Work”: The second half was reserved for intensive brainstorming. The objective was clear: define the group’s scope of work and identify the burning issues currently facing AI professionals in Serbia.
Key Challenges and Strategic Focus
During the discussion, several critical areas were identified as priorities for the working group in the coming period:
-
Education: Bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industry needs, and encouraging continuous professional development.
-
Labor Market: Understanding the demand for new specialist profiles and strategies for talent retention within the country.
-
Regulation and Ethics: Monitoring global trends in AI regulation and adapting the local legal framework.
-
Technical Implementation: Sharing best practices for implementing AI solutions into real-world business processes.
